The donation, which Zhao disclosed via a social media post, was made as part of his broader philanthropic mission and, in order to support Vitalik Buterin’s open source biotech initiatives.
CZ stated in his post that he strongly believes in backing “mission-driven work,” and his contribution supports Buterin’s unconventional approach to biotech that emphasizes open collaboration, transparency, and nonprofit models.
While specific details of the projects benefiting from the donation were not disclosed, Buterin’s initiatives focus on longevity research, pandemic prevention, and universal virus detection technologies; areas that aim to advance long-term human health.
